Cenote diving Playa del Carmen

Cenotes provide one of the most unique diving opportunities in the world. These freshwater underground rivers run for hundreds of kilometers below the jungle of the Yucatan Peninsula, and are accessed from the cenotes (cenote translates to sinkhole in English), or openings in the jungle floor.  Cenotes have long been important to the region, serving as both a source of fresh water and an important spiritual center for ancient and modern cultures.  Formed as limestone caves when the sea level was much lower during the ice age, these flooded caverns now provide divers with limitless adventure.
Recently, two of the world´s longest underwater cave systems were found to be connected, creating the world´s longest underground river system, Sac Actun.  This enormous underwater complex can be accessed by numerous sites within an hour´s drive from Playa del Carmen.  Each offers something special to discover.
When you dive with us, you will experience two dives in the world´s finest freshwater caverns. Our diving groups consist of a maximum of four certified divers per cavern guide.

Diving these magical underwater caverns is unique and breathtaking. With the thick green jungle surrounding you, let us guide you through the crystalline waters of the cenotes. No additional certification is required, only a good understanding of buoyancy control, a few special rules, and a big smile!

Respecting the Local Ecosystem

This amazing environment is home to animals and plants that are fascinating to find and observe. The many varieties of birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and mammals that depend on these water sources provide us with a new world to study and enjoy. Scuba10 takes firm measures to ensure that this delicate ecosystem is both respected and protected. The supreme challenge for our industry is continuing to manage, protect, and preserve this very special place.

Unforgettable Memories

Swim with us in the calming crystal clear waters of wide-open caverns full of natural cave formations that have been growing for thousands of years. Be surprised and delighted by rays of sunlight filtering down into the ancient world below, creating a sublime effect that truly must be experienced to be appreciated. Serveral of the sites offer professional photo opportunities, letting you cherish your memories forever (or just make your friends jealous on Instagram!).
Non-divers in your group? No problem! Nearly every cenote site offers the chance for non-divers to snorkle, swim, and soak in the sun in a stunning jungle setting.

Safety Comes First

Cenote diving is safe and easy, however the unique hazards of the cavern and cave environment require you to go with a professional, full-cave diver.
At Scuba10 our Cavern Guides are all Certified Full Cave Divers with a Dive Master or Dive Instructor license. All cenote divers must have an Open Water or equivalent certification.
